CHAPTER 3
Infrastructure
This chapter will describe the infrastructure of international commercial dispute resolution in Hong Kong, Singapore, Mainland China, and Japan. The term “infrastructure” refers to the legal machinery and organizations (public and private) supporting international commercial arbitration and alternative dispute resolution (ADR) in these jurisdictions. This focus will be on the following aspects in each jurisdiction: (1) legislation,1 (2) organizations, (3) government support, (4) judicial support, and (5) ADR initiatives. In terms of the latter, this chapter will consider mediation, mediation-arbitration (med-arb), and adjudication.
