Two percent fall in UK road deaths

LONDON - UK government figures released yesterday revealed the number ofpeople killed or injured on the country's roads fell by 2% last year. In1999 there were 320,310 road casualties. A total of 3,423 people werekilled - two more than 1998 - while 39,122 were seriously injured - down4% on 1998 - and 277,765 were slightly injured - down 1% on 1998. Therewere 235,048 road accidents involving personal injury in 1999, 2% lowerthan in 1998. Of these, 36,405 involved death or serious injury.
