Ordering defendants to disclose their insurance cover

THE original aim of the Third Parties (Rights Against Insurers Act) 1930 was to help people who were injured in road accidents. The Act ensured that, if the driver became insolvent, the injured person could recover direct from the insurer. He would not have to share in the insolvency. The Act also allowed the injured person to obtain information about the insurance cover from the driver and thereafter from the insurer.
