THE world‘s strongest ever recorded wind gust arrived at the Pacific island of Guam last week as Typhoon Paka crossed it causing more than $200m of damage, writes Chris Quick.

At 236 mph, it beats the previous record-holding gust, recorded in 1934 at Mount Washington in the US, by 5 mph.
