Six months on…

Six months ago, new security rules became standard worldwide. But as Paul Singer of Securewest International reports, that is far from the end of the story as some companies struggle to become compliant and others start to look for smoother operation and more benefits.

With very little fanfare, Ship security Alert Systems (SSAS) compliance became compulsory at the beginning of July 2006. This not so insignificant part of maritime legislation may have achieved regulatory requirement status without turning too many heads, but this is no reflection on either its importance nor the far-reaching consequences it will have in the future.
