EU fraud unit listens out for whistleblowers

An Internet whistleblowing system is to be established by European Union (EU) anti-fraud unit OLAF, through which investigators will be able to communicate with informers, who will be able to remain anonymous. The new multi-lingual information gathering model will help to avoid problems when “follow up can be difficult if the informant cannot be queried for further details,” said OLAF. At the same time, OLAF is also seeking to improve its existing free-phone system, install new text-mining software to assist investigations, and improve its IT and physical security.
