Industry Insider: Mathias Entenmann, vice president of PayPal International

Mathias Entenmann is vice president of International for PayPal. He joined PayPal in October 2003, previously serving as managing director for PayPal Europe. Prior to joining PayPal, Entenmann served as founder and chief executive officer for Paybox.net AG, a provider of mobile phone-based payment systems, located in Germany. Previously, he held various positions with Arthur D Little International and SAS Institute.

PayPal was originally established as a service for people to send money via their personal digital assistants, how did it grow to the size it is today and manage to survive the bursting of the dot.com bubble?

PayPal has achieved consistent growth because it is the fast, easy and secure way to pay online. There are several benefits to having a PayPal account. For buyers, payments sent through PayPal are highly secure. Unlike traditional online payment systems, PayPal ensures buyers’ account information is never shared with the seller. PayPal maintains the industry’s leading fraud prevention system to minimise losses, protect users’ accounts and preserve customer satisfaction. Buyers have the flexibility to send payments from multiple funding sources – a bank account, a stored balance in their PayPal account, or a credit card. Payments are convenient – faster and easier than mailing a cheque.
