Code on Corporate Governance

The economic crisis in 1997 saw many companies falling into financial difficulties. It highlighted, among other things, weaknesses in corporate governance regulation among Malaysian companies. The government has since introduced a number of reforms to require greater disclosure. Among these is the Malaysian Code of Corporate Governance which, as Brian Chia explains, is expected to be implemented by the beginning of 2001.
