IPCRe says catastrophes boosted profile

The relatively large number of catastrophes in the third quarter—Typhoon Maemi, Hurricane Isabel and Hurricane Fabian, the Hokkaido earthquake among them—served to heighten insurers need to purchase greater levels of catastrophe protection, according to Jim Bryce, chief executive at Bermudian catastrophe reinsurer IPCRe.
