5.2, missing vessel

Egypt: Egyptian authorities launched a search to find a cargo ship that went missing in the Red Sea on its way to Sudan. General cargo vessel Badr I (1121 gt, built 1962) left Adabiyah port on Jan 9, with a cement cargo bound for Port Sudan. The 1,700-tonne vessel left the port of Suez several days previously with a 14-member crew made up of nine Egyptians, four Sudanese, and one Yemeni. Rescue ships were sent along the Sudanese coast to search for the ship. Egyptian authorities also planned to send an airplane. According to Egyptian transport ministry, the vessel’s owner Afro-Asia Shipping said the ship had complied with all safety measures required and had obtained all the necessary licences before leaving the Egyptian port.
