Mid-term government identifies pensions as issue for next election

Measures to address vulnerabilities in the country’s much admired private pensions system were finally approved in January

The switch to individual private pensions in Chile, a major element of the military government’s economic reform programme started in 1981, now has a track record of over a quarter of a century. It is much admired universally, and more than a few Chilean consultants found their services in demand from other countries and international organisations, eager to imitate the Chilean system.
