24.1, vessel detained, fatalities

UK: general cargo vessel Sava Lake on passage from Horsens, Denmark, with a cargo of steel-turnings, was detained at the request of the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA), following the master’s report that two Ukrainian crew members had been discovered dead in the forecastle store. All emergency services attended and MCA, Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB) and police enquiries were ongoing. A post mortem took place and some requirements from the MCA were being attended to. The stability of the cargo temperature was being monitored and when considered satisfactory by the MCA, the vessel would be permitted to proceed on voyage to Leixoes.
