Chile’s insurers upbeat about market prospects despite high claims

Less than one-third of vehicles have insurance • Bolivia • Colombia • Ecuador • Venezuela • Brazil • Central America

According to Miguel Uriarte, chairman of the Chilean Insurers’ Association, claims and payments during 2007 rose by 30% to US$4.94bn, with some types of life cover and robbery with break-in accounting for the fastest growth in claims.
