Property damage and business interruption

8.1, fog, business interruption

US: ship traffic was halted due to dense fog along the Houston Ship Channel. The channel serves the ports of Houston and Texas City, where refineries account for 13.45% of US refining capacity. Dense fog made sailing the channel unsafe according to the Coast Guard Houston Vessel Traffic Center. Multi-day fog closures have prevented crude oil deliveries to those eight refineries, among the largest in the nation, resulting in unanticipated drops in national crude inventories reported by the US government. This comes after the announcement that the Port of Grays Harbor sustained more than $1.0mn in damage from the December storm. Port officials said that figure could rise. Port commissioners approved emergency repair contracts to fix the roof panels and doors on the building known as the transit shed, doors to the maintenance shop and more than $200,000 in lighting, primarily for downed or bent poles.
