Market report shows wide variations between member states
Claims frequency has fallen in the EU, but while in Austria 11% of policyholders made a claim only 3% did so in Finland
Motor insurance companies active in Europe collected premiums of some €127.7bn ($188bn) in 2006, accounting for about 31%
of non-life business, according to a report, “The Motor Insurance Industry in Europe”, published recently by the European
insurers’ association CEA. This represented a fall of about 1% (in real terms) from 2005, and was driven mainly by a fall
in motor liability premium rates.
