Non-life business outpaces life insurance to take market over €1trn
The growth in non-life business appears a one-off phenomenon, once the effect of the Dutch healthcare market is stripped out
The European insurance industry is now worth over €1trn. Figures from the European insurers’ federation Comite Europeen des
Assurances (CEA) show that life and non-life insurers in the 33 member countries collected total premiums of €1,065bn ($1,505bn)
in 2006. This amounted to growth of 4.8% from 2005 levels of €995.3bn.
