Law reform bans new composite insurers in favour of separate life insurance companies
The finance minister of France visited Algeria and promised a resolution in early 2007 to the problem of disputed liabilities of French insurers; this could clear the way for French financial groups to enter the market
When the Algerian insurance market started to be liberalised in 1995 there were five state-owned and mutual companies (excluding
the reinsurer
CCR) in the market. By early 2007 there were 15 companies in the market, although eight of these were in the public sector, including
two mutual insurers.
