South Africa: more than 86 people were injured when a passenger train derailed in Durban. One coach left the tracks near the Duffs Road Railway Station in KwaMashu. It appeared that most of the injuries occurred when passengers attempted to jump off the derailed coach. There were no major injuries. The South African Railway Safety Regulator inspectors will conduct an inspection to determine the cause of the train derailment. The regulator expressed concern at the increasing number of passenger train accidents. The Railway Safety Regulator said it would continue to engage with Metrorail and the South African Rail Commuter Corporation to ensure both adhered to safety standards.
