Indonesia: US Marines joined an international effort to deliver aid and medical care to nearly 650,000 Indonesians displaced by a devastating 6.3- magnitude earthquake. The US also increased its aid contribution to $5mn. The United Nations said at least 21 other countries have joined the effort to help those left homeless by the quake, which killed more than 5,800 people. The quake that struck central Java island on May 27 killed at least 5,857 people. An estimated 647,000 people were displaced by the quake. The government said the quake destroyed more than 135,000 homes. The United Nations has appealed for $103mn for recovery efforts over the next six months.
