Lawmakers vote to reform federal flood insurance programme

Insurers hope the new modernization act will restore the damage done to the NFIP after last season’s hurricanes

With just a week to go to the start of the 2006 hurricane season on 1 June, US lawmakers voted to reform and update the troubled National Flood Insurance Programme (NFIP), the federal system of providing flood coverage.
