Insurers can invest in hybrid instruments

But companies can only invest in these instruments according to strict guidelines prescribed by IRDA

India’s Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority (IRDA) has decided to permit insurance companies to invest in the hybrid (equity and debt) instruments offered by banks as permitted recently by the Reserve Bank of India for augmenting their capital adequacy.
