The only insurer operating in Afghanistan is the wholly state-owned insurer, Afghan National Insurance Company (ANIC). This
company has been the sole insurer permitted to operate in the market for the last 30 years. The insurance market has been
nationalised in Afghanistan since the 1970s and over the last 30 years had virtually ceased to function as coups, civil war
and the Taliban regime resulted in the collapse of virtually all trading activities.
