China: typhoon “Matsa” roared into the eastern province of Anhui after hitting Shanghai, with the death toll from the storm rising to at least four. “Matsa” killed one person in Anhui after leaving two dead in Zhejiang province and one in Shanghai, state media reported. The storm affected more than 763,000 people in Anhui and caused at least Yuan373mn (US$47mn) in economic damage. Anhui authorities evacuated more than 8,600 people from the path of the typhoon. Zhejiang, where the typhoon first made landfall, bore the brunt of the damage. The typhoon caused Yuan6.5bn in damage, knocking down more than 13,000 houses and destroying 205,000 hectares of crops. Meanwhile, in Taiwan, initial farm damage from the typhoon was estimated at NT$36mn (US$1.1mn), while more than 50,000 households were left without electricity and 100,000 families had no tap water.
