2. 8, crash, injuries
Canada: aviation insurance pool La Réunion Aérienne managed insurance for the $110mn Air France A340 that burst into flames
after skidding off the runway at Toronto's Pearson international airport. Air France flight 358 from Paris to Toronto overshot
the runway by 200 metres in a heavy thunderstorm, crashing down a deep wooded ravine before bursting into flames and breaking
in two. Everyone on board survived but the aircraft was destroyed. The Airbus A340 carried 297 passengers and 12 crew, of
whom 22 people, including the plane's co-pilot, suffered light injuries. The wide-body aircraft was one of 21 A340–300s in
Air France's fleet. It is the first crash landing for this type of plane since its first commercial flight in 1992.
