India: record monsoon floods hit Mumbai and the Indian state of Maharashtra, killing about 1,000 people and causing 85,000
claims worth up to Rp20bn (US$460mn). The total insured impact was estimated at 5,000 SMEs, 10,000 homes, 35,000 retailers
and 35,000 vehicle owners. Uninsured losses were expected to be considerably greater. Nearly a metre of rain fell in 24 hours
on Mumbai, the most that any Indian city has ever suffered in a single day. The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce
& Industry said that Mumbai alone lost business income of Rp4.5bn. Meanwhile, the Indian arm of Pfizer Inc, the world's largest
drug maker, reported that the floods damaged drug stocks worth an estimated Rp1bn ($23mn).
