New reinsurance arrangements for mutuals
European Union directives are fast catching up with France’s mutual insurers. From the new year they will be required to meet
the same financial and prudential standards as other insurers. This is expected to lead to a series of mergers, with as many
as half of the 3,000 existing mutuals likely to disappear by the end of next year.
