Indian insurers to be penalised for late payment of claims

India’s insurance regulator has ruled that insurers will have to pay their customers a penal interest in case of delay in the settlement of claims. The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority has fixed the rate of interest at 2% above the prevailing bank rate at any point of time.
