Japanese market sees further consolidation

Two of the biggest insurers in Japan – Yasuda Fire & Marine Insurance and Nissan Fire & Marine Insurance – have merged to form the country’s second-largest nonlife insurer, Sompo Japan Insurance. Only Millea Holdings, itself created in April out of a merger between Tokio Marine & Fire Insurance and Nichido Fire & Marine Insurance, is bigger.
