Workers’ compensation reforms under attack in New South Wales
Reforms to workers’ compensation law in the Australian state of New South Wales have come under attack from within the state’s
governing Labor Party. The government’s proposed reforms, including ending the right of workers to sue employers at common
law and the introduction of statutory limit on payouts, have sparked outrage in the state’s union movement, which said it
will soon step up widespread industrial action. Other proposed reforms that have drawn criticism include the implementation
of binding medical panels that would not be open to appeal through the courts below a certain level.
