General Insurance Corporation of India

The General Insurance Corporation of India (GIC), now called Indian Re, reported a 10% increase in net premiums written to Rs18.9bn for the year ending 31 March 2000. Apart from its direct aviation account, GIC derived most of its premium income from cessions from its then subsidiary companies — New India Assurance, Oriental Insurance, United India Insurance and National Insurance.
