Model predicts hailstorm losses
The hailstorm that cut a swathe through Sydney in April 1999 cost insurers about A$1.7bn. For the Australian insurance industry
it was one the worst natural disaster in the country’s history. A computer model that predicts hailstorm losses for insurers
has now been developed at the Natural Hazards Research Centre (NHRC) at Macquarie University to assist insurers with future
disasters of this kind.
