Girl left blind at birth awarded nearly £1mn
A girl who was left blind because of errors by hospital staff at her birth has won nearly £1mn in compensation. The NHS trust
admitted liability and will pay an initial payment of £411,000 and further yearly sums of £15,000. The girl was born prematurely
at 26 weeks and the hospital failed to spot that she was suffering from retinopathy of prematurity. As a result, her retinas
became detached causing her to go blind.
