Prison officer sues over blood swallowing
A former prison officer is suing the Scottish Prison Service for £300,000 after he swallowed the blood of an intravenous drug
user whilst breaking up a fight. Although tests for Aids and hepatitis proved negative, the prison officer said that the Scottish
Prison Service caused delays to the arrival of the results. Because of the stress of waiting for the results, he alleges that
he became depressed and had to be signed off from work.
