Award for racial discrimination and unfair dismissal
A leisure centre has been forced to pay more than £100,000 to an Iraqi-born employee for racial and disability discrimination
and unfair dismissal. The employee complained to his employers when two white men, who refused to share a whirlpool bath with
two Asian men, were given a refund. He was then covertly filmed by two private detectives, and then dismissed. The tribunal
said he had been victimised and unfairly dismissed. The award includes £53,000 for loss of earnings over the next five years.
The company said that it plans to appeal against the employment tribunal decision.
