Settlement over rail worker death
The family of a railway maintenance worker has received £160,000 compensation in a settlement over his death. He was killed
on a rail track whilst checking rails for defects. His lawyers were reported as saying that if the case gone to trial, they
would have alleged negligence by his employers for imposing too heavy a burden of work. At the time of his death he had worked
46 days with only one day off. The companies sued, a recruitment company, a rail company and Network Rail, denied liability.
The settlement was made without admission of liability.
