NZ accident compensation monopoly reinstated
The New Zealand government’s reinstallment of ACC’s monopoly in the workplace accident sector will not result in higher levies,
according to Finance Minister Michael Cullen. At present private insurers and a small state-owned firm currently compete for
the NZ$500mn in annual premiums following the previous government’s ending of state-owned ACC’s monopoly less than a year
ago in July 1999.
