2.2% GDP from cost of litigation

This according to a study by Tillinghast Towers-Perrin, finding that at least 2.2% (US$152bn) of the US’s gross domestic product (GDP) comes from the cost of litigation. The US damages system is ‘by far the most expensive in the industrialised world’, costing two and a half times the average of twelve other countries surveyed, and obtaining less than 50 cents to the dollar for claimants.
