A new development in the financing of litigation has emerged, with investment firms making money available to plaintiffs in return for a cut of any settlement or court award. The finance is seen as helping plaintiffs win bigger amounts from well-capitalized defendants (and their insurers). Without early financial help, plaintiffs are more vulnerable to tough tactics.
