Inaccurate road injury stats

The European Commission is preparing guidelines to reduce inaccuracies in recorded information on road accidents. While Britain currently holds the best European record, with the exception of Sweden, inaccuracies have long been suspected. A government report in autumn 1999 cited the Transport Research Laboratory ‘there are estimated to be almost three times as many serious casualties than are recorded in national casualty figures and nearly twice as many slight casualties.’
