Scarring from molten metal
A steel worker has been awarded £10,000 in compensation after being left with permanent scarring in a workplace injury. The
man was melting manganese scrap metal in a furnace when it exploded, covering him in molten metal. He was admitted to hospital
a number of times after the accident and was eventually diagnosed with Crohn’s disease and had an operation to remove part
of his stomach lining and colon and to fit a stoma bag. Eventually the bag was removed and he returned to work.
