Mandatory negligence indemnity for doctors proposed

The Department of Health (DoH) has launched a consultation paper entitled “Medical Act 1983 (Amendment) and Miscellaneous Amendments Order 2006.” According to the DoH, doctors already have a professional obligation, set out in “Good Medical Practice,” to have insurance/indemnity cover, although there is, at present, no legal obligation for this.
