Boston archdiocese settles with Lumbermens
Lumbermens Mutual Casualty, part of Kemper Insurance, is reported to have paid $20mn to the Archdiocese of Boston as settlement
for claims relating to sexual abuse by priests. The archdiocese sued Lumbermens for $59mn in 2004 for its alleged failure
to participate in the payment of $85mn in compensation to 522 victims of sexual abuse. Lumbermens countersued, claiming that
the settlements had been voluntary and that the church owed money to Lumbermens.
