$1.6mn for reverse discrimination

A US policeman who was sacked by the Los Angeles police after he was filmed punching a black youth has been awarded $1.6m. He had claimed race discrimination because he was treated more harshly than a black officer. A second white officer was awarded $811,000 in damages. The case was filed as so-called “reverse discrimination” lawsuit. A third police officer, who was black, was suspended for just four days.
