The ‘egg shell skull’ principle
The case involved a whiplash injury and the claimant was awarded a global sum of £12,900 of which £6,000 was in respect of
her general damage. At the time of the accident the claimant suffered from psychiatric illness in the form of anxiety and
depression. The judge declined to make an award for loss of earnings for a period longer than six months and no award for
future loss was made.
