Insurers grapple with data centre aggregation challenge

Re/insurers are confident they can provide sufficient capacity for data centre clusters, but they struggle to map fragmented exposures

DATA centres are proliferating across the US and around the world — and with it, capital costs and potential insurance losses have ballooned. Swiss Re estimates that just the five largest cloud computing firms will invest $450bn in 2026 on physical AI infrastructure housed in large data centres, some of which can cost up to $20bn.
