The framework for autonomous vehicles is still taking shape

Product liability reform, data governance and operational learning from this year’s AV pilots will shape the insurance landscape for years to come

THE news that fully driverless vehicles are expected to operate on London’s streets later this year is another important milestone in the UK’s autonomous vehicle (AV) journey. Yet it comes at a time when the policy, regulatory and insurance frameworks remain under active development. Unlike previous transport reforms, the government has chosen to build the AV regulatory framework alongside live deployment, rather than finalising it in advance.
