The English Admiralty Court's decision in Unity Ship Group SA v Euroins Insurance JSC (The Happy Aras) [2026] 1 Lloyd's Rep 151 provides a clear and compelling reminder of the high evidential threshold shipowners must meet when seeking to establish due diligence in appointing and ensuring competence of the master and the crew under article III rule 1 and article IV rule 1 of the Hague Rules.
