Private credit: opportunity, opacity and insurance exposures

Transparency will be key for insurers as private credit expands into semi-liquid products and is increasingly sold to retail investors

THE scale and pace of growth in the private credit market since the 2008 global financial crisis has been extraordinary. Broadly defined, private credit covers commercial loans extended by non bank institutions (typically private capital firms) funded by institutional investors and lent directly to corporates.
