From fragmentation to reform: the evolution of beneficial ownership transparency in Chile
In recent years, beneficial ownership transparency (BOT) has become a central policy tool for addressing corruption, tax evasion,
and illicit financial flows. Globally, more than 100 countries now operate live beneficial ownership (BO) registers, signalling
a significant shift towards corporate transparency.
1 Across the Global South in particular, countries are moving from secrecy-based corporate frameworks towards transparency
systems that reveal the individuals who ultimately own, control, or benefit from legal entities. Yet, progress remains uneven,
often driven by external evaluations rather than sustained domestic policy commitment.
