Mother not told of Down’s syndrome risk
A woman who gave birth to a baby with Down’s syndrome and a defective heart was entitled to sue for damages, because she had
not been told about the increased risk of having a child with Down’s syndrome as a result of her age. The 37 year old woman
had not been told about screening tests or amniocentesis, and the judge said that if she had been, she would have had the
tests and would have terminated the pregnancy when it showed positive.
